Two searches, two questions

• PimEyes runs a face-index search. It detects the face in your upload, turns it into a template and compares that with templates it already extracted from photos on pages it crawled. The result is photos of what it believes is the same person, including photos you never uploaded, when those photos are in its index. Any face in an uploaded photo can be searched. That reach is the appeal, and it is also the legal and ethical exposure: the same search works on a stranger.
• FaceSentry searches for copies of your photo. It looks for the photo you upload, and visually similar images, across the public web: reposts, crops, resized copies, screenshots and lookalike scenes. It is self-search only for adults, the consent is shown before you upload, a liveness check rejects anything that is not a live person, and there is no index of faces for anyone else to search.
• The overlap is the question “is this photo of me being used somewhere?” The difference is the question “are there other photos of me out there?” FaceSentry does not answer the second one, and no result of ours should be read as if it did.

Which one fits

Pick PimEyes if

• you need a face-index search that returns different photos of the same face;
• you need dozens of searches a day;
• you accept a tool whose index can be searched for anyone, which includes you, by someone else.

Pick FaceSentry if

• you want to know where a specific photo of you has been copied, free, with the source pages shown;
• you are in Illinois;
• you want a service that will not search for other people;
• you want scheduled re-checks, AI-manipulation detection, alerts and takedown paperwork for $14.99 to $49.99 a month;
• you want a stated retention period for what you upload.

Using both is reasonable, because the two searches answer different questions. Run FaceSentry’s free search first on the photo most likely to be copied. Use a face-index search only on your own face, and only after reading what the operator keeps.

• It does not find different photos of you. It is not a face index, and we do not run one.
• It does not prove absence. No matches means the search found nothing in what it could see, not that your photos are not out there.
• It does not decide for you. Results are possible matches you review; similarity is not identity, misuse or authenticity.
